Crafting is a hobby that many moms enjoy and are uniquely gifted to do. With never-ending kids’ projects and school events, there’s always an opportunity to show off your creative skills. If you’re a mother looking to make money from your craft skills, whether as a side hustle or a full-time gig, then know that it’s very possible.

Starting a business can be an exciting and lucrative undertaking, however there are things to consider before jumping in. Creating a business plan, setting important goals and deadlines, determining your niche, determining the right legal structure-sole proprietorship, partnership, LLC, or corporation-are all things that need to be considered before diving in. With that said, and with the right structure in place, moms can make money from their craft talents!

Below are 5 Ways Moms Can Start a Craft Business Online

5 Ways Moms Can Start a Craft Business Online

1. Open An Etsy Shop

Moms can start a craft business online by opening an Etsy shop. Etsy is a platform that has an easy barrier to entry for business owners. If you’re good at making craft kits, art supplies, crochet patterns, knitting patterns plus more then Etsy might be the place to showcase your talents. You can create personalized and custom-made crafts and sell them online. You can also use your craft skills to make printables, like wall art, calendars, greeting cards and pretty stationary. The choices are endless.

2. Sell Your Items on Amazon Handmade

Another way crafty mothers can start a business online is through Amazon Handmade. The Handmade store is open to artisans who make accessories, artwork, baby, beauty & personal care, clothing, shoes & handbags, home, outdoor & home care, jewelry & watches, kitchen & dining, pet supplies, sporting goods, stationery & party supplies and toys & games. According to Amazon, they use an application process to add new artisans to the Handmade category to ensure customers are able to buy with confidence.

3. Launch a Craft Blog

Showcase your talents on a blog. Starting a blog takes a LOT of hard work, however, if done strategically it can be quite lucrative. There are many ways to monetize a blog. You can make money via affiliate marketing (promotion of other brands’ products where you earn a commission), selling your own products or services, advertising (the more views you generate the more ad money you receive), or selling sponsored posts. The key to generating traffic to your blog is ensuring you have SEO-friendly keywords and content. In other words, if your site is optimized strategically you’ll receive a higher volume of traffic.

4. Write a Craft eBook

Writing a craft how-to eBook is a great way to highlight your creative skills and share that knowledge with others. If crafting is your passion then sharing that via an eBook can make you money, because, there are others willing to pay to learn what you know. You can sell your book, in person, to other moms. As a result, they’ll share it with their friends. You can also sell your book on any platform, whether it’s your own blog, an Etsy shop, on Amazon or via social media. Companies like Lulu and Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing make it easier than ever for people to become first-time authors.

5. Start a Coaching Business

Teach others what you know about crafting by starting a coaching business. Use your crafting passion and knowledge and help others develop and hone their skills.

As an expert, you can offer one-on-one or group coaching. You could even offer online craft workshops or tutorials and teach your audience crafting techniques and strategies. Eventually, you can parlay your knowledge into an online course that you can sell on your website or hosting platform.
