What Does Your Google Search Say About You?

November 3, 2025 by watkinsT Leave a Comment

What does your Google search say about you? Does it tell the story you’re hoping to share? Does it paint the narrative you want people to know about you? I’ve been creating content online for over 11 years, so my Google search results may look different from yours, but you can still show up the way you want to.

If you’re not happy with what appears when you Google your brand, don’t worry. This is something you can fix. Here are some actionable steps to turn things around:

1. Create or update your website
Your website is your online home base. Make sure it clearly explains who you are, what you do, and how you help people. Include keywords that reflect your brand and niche so Google can index your site properly. (When Google indexes your content, it means your site is recognized and included in search results.) On your homepage, clearly communicate your brand’s purpose and value using these keywords. Adding a blog or resources section allows you to continually produce fresh content that positions you as an expert.

2. Optimize your social media profiles
Consistency is key. Use the same name, photo, and bio across all platforms so your brand is instantly recognizable. Include niche-specific keywords in your bios such as “Mompreneur Coach,” “Wellness Expert,” or “Content Creator for Busy Moms.” This helps Google and potential clients understand exactly what you do. Be sure to link your social profiles back to your website to strengthen your online presence.

3. Start publishing content
The more content you create under your name, the more Google associates you with your area of expertise. Blog posts, YouTube videos, podcasts, guest articles, Pinterest pins, and even Etsy listings all help improve your search results. Focus on content that showcases your knowledge, answers your audience’s questions, and provides value. Over time, this consistent publishing pushes your brand higher in search results.

4. Get featured in the media
Writing for online publications like Forbes or Business Insider, appearing as a podcast guest, and getting featured on blogs or other digital platforms all help boost your online credibility and authority. For example, when I search my brand name, one of my CBS interviews appears in the results, along with an article I wrote for Motherly, a top-tier brand. Associating with these high-authority outlets not only enhances your credibility with your audience but also helps improve your domain authority, which can boost your visibility in search results.

5. Clean up old or irrelevant content
If outdated, unflattering, or irrelevant links are connected to your brand, work to remove or update them. You can also create new, high-quality content to “bury” older material that no longer represents your brand. This ensures that when someone searches for you, they see a polished, professional image.

6. Add your business to Google (even if you’re online only)
Adding your business to Google through a Google Business Profile increases your visibility, credibility, and trust. Even if your business operates entirely online, having a verified profile helps Google index your brand and display it more prominently in search results.

7. Be consistent
Building a strong online presence takes time. Show up regularly, create valuable content, and keep your messaging aligned with your mission. The more consistent you are, the more Google and your audience will recognize and trust your brand.
