What is a Content Creator? You Might Be One Without Even Realizing It!

March 31, 2025 by watkinsT Leave a Comment

A lot of people wonder, What is a content creator? There seems to be various schools of thought on this, and I want to dispel the idea that content creators are only those who post on social media to secure brand partnerships. While traditional social media influencers certainly fall under the content creator umbrella, they are not the only ones who do. In fact, you might be a content creator without even realizing it! If you’re a business owner using content to market your business, you’re a content creator too.

Many mompreneurs don’t realize that creating content in various forms helps attract and serve their audience while building a

profitable brand. There are several ways to create content that drives traffic, builds authority, and helps you monetize. Here are seven types of content creators:

1. Blogger
If you post educational or informative content on a blog to draw people to your business, you are a content creator. Blogs help with SEO, establish credibility, and create a long-term content strategy. I’ve had my blog for almost 11 years, and many of my blog posts have been getting views for 5+ years. I have one sponsored partnership that is still getting traffic after 10 years. According to Demand Sage, 76% of content marketers rely heavily on blogs to generate leads.

2. Podcaster
If you record podcast episodes to inform and educate your intended audience, you too are a content creator. Podcasts allow you to connect with your audience through voice and storytelling while building a loyal following. I’ve had my own podcast for 6 years and see the power in bringing people to a platform and allowing them to get to know you via audio content. According to a Semrush statistic, podcasting is an underutilized marketing channel, with only 3% of content marketers leveraging podcasts in their content marketing strategies.

3. YouTuber or Video Creator
If you create content on YouTube or produce videos on other platforms to drive traffic and build a community, you are a content creator. Video is one of the most powerful forms of content marketing today. It’s also easy to consume video.

4. Webinar Host
If you create informative webinars to educate and engage your audience, then you are a content creator. Webinars allow for deep dives into topics and provide interactive learning experiences.

5. Newsletter Creator
If you send out newsletters packed with valuable content to your target audience on a regular basis, then you are a content creator. Email marketing remains one of the most effective ways to nurture an audience and convert leads.

6. Course Creator
If you create digital courses that teach a skill or provide valuable knowledge, you are a content creator. Online courses help establish authority while providing another stream of income.

7. Digital Products Creator
If you create downloadable resources, guides, or e-books to educate your audience, you are a content creator. These resources serve as lead magnets, helping to grow your audience and position you as an expert.

Note: Course creators and digital product creators are both considered digital content creators, but they differ in the type of digital products they create. Course creators generally produce educational digital products, which are often more structured and include lessons, videos, quizzes, and other materials designed to teach specific skills or knowledge. Digital product creators make a broader range of non-educational or supplemental digital products, such as spreadsheets, e-books, printable planners, templates, or other digital assets. It felt like they both deserved their own attention.

Why Should Businesses Be Content Creators?

Understanding that content creation extends beyond social media influencing is key to leveraging your skills for business growth. Content creation allows you to draw, inspire, educate, and convert your audience. Whether you’re writing, recording, or presenting, you are building a platform that fosters engagement and monetization.

Do you see yourself on this list? If you’re already creating content but not thinking about it as a strategic tool for business growth, it’s time to shift your mindset. Content creation isn’t just for influencers—it’s for anyone looking to build an audience and make an impact.
