Your pinned bio, or “About Me” post, on Instagram is one of the first things new followers see, and it’s key to making a strong first impression. It’s also one of the most important pieces of your online presence. It’s the first thing people read when they land on your page, and it determines whether they stay, follow, or scroll away.
A clear, simple bio helps you stay connected with your audience and lets viewers know exactly who you are and what you do, removing any confusion. When your bio is strong and easy to understand, it immediately tells people whether your page is for them, making it far more likely that visitors will convert into followers.
Here’s how to create a simple pinned bio:
1. Speak directly to your target audience
Your pinned post will live at the top of your page, and people will come back to it repeatedly. Make sure your language speaks directly to the people you want to reach, and include keywords your audience is searching for. Think about who your message is for: moms, small business owners, creatives, Christians, entrepreneurs, singles, etc.
Remember — your bio will change as your brand grows. Mine has changed several times over the years, and that’s normal.
2. Include a bit of your backstory
Your backstory creates connection. It lets readers see why you have this passion and why you feel called to help them. For example, on my Instagram pinned “About Me” post, I shared a childhood photo, a short piece on my early passions, and even a clip of me on the news talking about it.
Ask yourself:
- What led you to this work?
- What struggles did you overcome?
- How are you uniquely gifted or qualified to help?
Even one line about your story can help your audience trust you more.
3. Tell people exactly what you do and how you help
Clarity matters. Your viewers should never have to guess. State simply:
- What you do
- Who you help
- What transformation you provide
Example: “I help working moms build side businesses using their God-led passions.” When people understand what you do instantly, they’re more likely to follow.
4. Determine the type of post you’ll create
Will it be a static post, a reel, or a carousel? Whichever you choose, it has to capture attention quickly — long paragraphs won’t be read. Use short lines, clear language, and direct statements. Hook your viewer immediately with the most important information, and remove anything extra. Your bio should be easy to skim and understand in seconds.
5. Put it all together using a simple software system like Canva
Canva makes it easy to design your pinned bio. You can experiment with layouts, fonts, and visuals until it looks right. Don’t be afraid to tweak it over time — trial and error is part of creating something that works.
Your pinned bio or About Me post is your first impression on social media. When it’s clear, compelling, and visually appealing, it connects with your audience, builds trust, and grows your following. Start today and create a pinned bio that works everywhere!
