This week’s turnback TV show is Who’s the Boss? This series ran for 8 seasons, from 1984-1992.
Retired major-league baseball player Tony Micelli (Tony Danza) takes a job as a live-in housekeeper for divorced executive Angela Bower (Judith Light). He’s a widower looking to provide a better life for his daughter, Samantha (Alyssa Milano). Angela is rigid and consumed with her work, while her timid son, Jonathan (Danny Pintauro) lacks confidence. Angela’s mother Mona Robinson (Katherine Helmond), who frequently visits, is seen as a man-craving vixen. Tony acts as a strong male role model for Jonathan, while Angela and Mona provide motherly guidance for Samantha. Over the course of the seasons, Angela and Tony become attracted to one another, but their relationship never fully develops.
Who’s the Boss? is a funny family show that deals with subjects like teen and adult dating, jealously, peer pressure, plus other life problems and circumstances adolescents and adults face. Although kid-friendly, take in mind, the grandmother is not your average grandma and ofter makes frequent sexual jokes and references, which in many cases goes over a kid’s head, but is there nonetheless.
Because every parent is unique and kids’ sensibilities and maturity vary, we always recommend that parents or guardians do their own research before allowing kids to start a new TV show. What is acceptable for one parent or child may not be for another. Our age recommendation for Who’s the Boss? would be 10+
