Tia Mowry Talks About the Proverbial Work-Life Balance

March 22, 2015 by watkinsT Leave a Comment

Tia Mowry has been in the limelight since her teenage days of her hit show Sister Sister, and it seems the 36-year-old actress and entrepreneur has no plans of slowing down. The Instant Mom actress recently spoke with Vibe about everything from career, to being a wife and mom, to the proverbial balancing act.

A lot of moms want to know, what are Mowry’s tips for balancing work and career?

“The number one key is to basically prioritize. I’m a mother and wife first because family is important to me, and a part of having a balanced life is not feeling guilty about taking care of yourself. I will never forget being told by a woman that is a writer, producer and a mother as well. I admire her and asked ‘How do you do it?’ and she told me, ‘You have to take care of the goose, in order for the goose to lay the egg.’ So in order for you to be able to execute all of those different qualities as a woman and as a person, you have to take care of yourself. It’s easy for us to feel guilty when we put ourselves first, but when this woman said it to me from this perspective, it was so clear and so true.”

And, what’s Mowry’s take on incorporating healthy eating with a busy lifestyle?

“It first starts with the perception on healthy eating, and my perception is it’s important because I’ve seen the benefits of healthy eating in my life in relation to my struggle with endometriosis and having a baby. Also, I simplify everything and then, it becomes doable. I’ll go grocery shopping at the farmer’s market on a Sunday and already know what I’m going to cook for the next two, three or four days. Right now, I make a really good, healthy turkey meatball spaghetti. I make them with turkey, spinach and oatmeal instead of using breadcrumbs. Then I’ll make this really amazing, tasty kale salad with tangerines, pomegranate seeds, walnuts and then I make my own tangerine and olive oil vinaigrette.”
