Last year over 400,000 children were reported missing. It’s a terrifying statistic, and as a parent, a horrific subject to even talk about. But, maybe some simple safety guidelines will help make a positive difference in the lives of many families.
Instant Mom star, Tia Mowry, recently teamed up with The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and introduced KidSmartz, a child safety program that educates families about preventing abduction and empowers kids in grades K-5 to practice safer behaviors. The program offers resources to help parents, caregivers, and teachers protect kids by teaching and practicing the 4 Rules of Personal Safety using tips, printable activities, quizzes, articles, music, videos, and more.
Mowry, who’s mom to 3-year-old son Cree, stopped by New York’s Pix11 and shared some valuable information all parents should talk about with their children. “I’m here to bring awareness to child abduction prevention,” the actress passionately stated and then shared the 4 safety tips below.
- Check first before going anywhere
- Take a friend everywhere you go
- Tell people “NO” if they try to touch or hurt you
- Tell a trusted adult if anyone makes you feel sad, scared or confused.

Keep your children’s pix off computer, Facebook; phones, etc. and do not let even your most trusted family member or friend take pixs of your children. Those closest to the family/member usually pose the most danger to your children. If you must use pix, please open your own folder with extreme privacy to which only you can have access. If you must share, share only using “private messaging”. DO NOT ASSUME ANYONE CLOSE TO YOUR CHILDREN IS TRUSTWORTHY!
