Soleil Moon Frye Talks DIY Party Boxes and Getting Crafty with Her Kids (Interview)

October 5, 2014 by watkinsT 1 Comment

Soleil Moon FryeNo matter how many years have passed, we will always remember Soleil Moon Frye as that spunky kid from the 80’s TV show, Punky Brewster.  But, the once child actress is now a mother, and a successful business woman, intent on encouraging other moms to create memories with their children, not necessarily by way of television, but through crafting.

The mom of daughter’s, Poet, 9 and Jagger, 6, and son Lyric, 7 months, is a mompreneur with a variety of successful endeavors under her name.  For starters, she’s got her website, Moonfrye, a place that shares unique, simple and time-effective ways to get creative with your family; she hosts Home Made Simple on the OWN network; she’s the author of the highly regarded book, Let’s Get This Party Started; she’s co-owner of an eco-friendly apparel line, The Little Seed; she’s a Today Show contributor, and a Target Brand Ambassador.  And, to top it all off, she recently launched P.S. XO, a line of party boxes that helps busy parents take the stress out of planning parties.  We were grateful Frye took time out of her schedule to give Tinseltown Mom the details about her new DIY venture.

What inspired  you to create this “party in a box” idea?  My family and I love throwing parties in our home and we will find any chance to celebrate!  I wanted to share this fun, bonding experience with others – P.S. XO boxes contain beautiful goodies for decorating and throwing a party and this box is conveniently delivered right to your doorstep.  With P.S. XO, you can save time while still allowing you to be creative when planning a party!

Tell us about the different themes and what is included in each package.
There are over a dozen themes, everything from bridal shower to baby shower and safari to holiday themes.  Each theme is unique and fun.

You are so crafty.  We love your blog posts on various DIY projects! Do you love crafts and throwing parties?  I absolutely love crafting and throwing parties.  We love any chance to celebrate. I  love crafting with my kids.  We craft and decorate everything we can.

Are there any upcoming projects you’d like to share with us?
I’m currently working on my second season of Home Made Simple, which is on OWN.  We find incredible individuals who are very caring and are always giving back to their community and we go into their homes to help decorate and do makeovers. Working on this show is really rewarding because the people I work with and meet are truly remarkable.

How is your baby boy doing? Are you noticing any differences with raising a boy this time around?
He is awesome!  We all love and adore him.  My girls dote on him all the time.  I love spending every moment with him – he is such a good baby!

And, how have your girls adjusted to having a baby brother in the house?  Do the big sisters like helping with the baby?  I call my girls my little helpers – my daughters always want to help and babysit him.  They help in so many ways – I don’t know what I would do without them!

What are some “mommy time” moments that you enjoy taking for yourself?  I’ve been so busy lately so there aren’t too many moments I can take for myself but every once in a while, my husband and I will treat ourselves and sneak out to watch a movie.

Do you have any advice for moms on how they can get in regular, quality time with their kids?
Make the most of the time you have with your kids.  Be present and in the moment – try not to be distracted and enjoy spending moments with your kids. Don’t forget to often be a kid yourself.
