Colombian singer and former The Voice coach, Shakira, opened up to EFE following a presentation of First Steps, the collection of toys she designed in partnership with Fisher-Price, and she encouraged parents to give their children plenty of affection, saying it was the most important thing for them.
“Touch them and hug them a lot, expressions of affection that are never excessive and which are vital in the psychosocial and emotional development of a child,” Shakira said.
The 37-year-old is on point with her assessment. Studies show that when parents give their kids regular physical affection they feel safe and secure.
The new toy designer recently teamed up with Fisher Price and one of her main initiatives is early childhood development. “I saw how important developmental milestones are and how toys can help babies reach them — including with my own son,” Shakira said in a statement.
“I wanted to design a line of toys that stimulated development in the crucial early stages of life, the stages in which learning can be achieved through supervised play, fostering the development of psychological, social and motor skills.”
Shakira and FC Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué are expecting their second child at the beginning of next year, and they are already parents to son, Milan, who’s almost two.
