Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards spoke with E! News about the challenges of motherhood, and one of those was raising a 6-year-old daughter born with a Silver Spoon.
“It is really hard living in this town where everyone has so much and I think it’s important to talk to your kids about that,” she told E! News. “I do explain to my children, ‘You’re very fortunate, not everyone is as fortunate as this, and you know it’s very important to give back.’ They see Mauricio and I giving back and we take them to things to show them and get involved. So I just think it has to be an open conversation, not just talk about it, but also get out there and see them doing things.”
On the show, which is now in it’s 5th season on Bravo, Richards has expressed concerns that her daughter, Portia, will grow up to be spoiled, and seeks to teach her the value of money. She also noted that her other daughters did not have such a privileged upbringing.
On last week’s episode the 45-year-old, along with her husband Mauricio Umansky, flew on a private plane to Lake Tahoe with their four children, and they also went on shopping sprees, spending upwards of $500 on clothing for Portia, so the reality star is trying to keep her baby girl grounded.
And even with having an excess of wealth, raising a child is not without it’s challenges. “Portia will have her moments,” Richards admitted. “She’s six-years-old, whether you have money or you don’t… all six-year-olds, they are going to test you and push you to the limits but you have to nip it in the bud.”
