After being discovered at a local mall at age 16 Rhea Wahlberg embarked upon a blossoming modeling career, ultimately landing the cover of several major fashion magazines, including French Vogue, Marie Claire, and British and American ELLE. She was also the first model to take over the Revlon contract after Cindy Crawford, but her biggest feat to date was meeting and marrying actor Mark Wahlberg, because together the power couple produced four beautiful children, Ella, 11 Michael, 9 Brendan, 6 and Grace, 5.
We know that being married to a Hollywood heavyweight has its perks, but if you delve into Rhea Wahlberg’s world you’ll see that the stay-at-home mother has the same goal as regular moms, to play an active and essential role in her children’s lives. She even forfeited her modeling career to raise her family and says that being a wife and mother is now her top priority. “… I stopped modeling after my son, Michael, was born to stay at home with the kids. I still do that now. I’m a stay-at-home mom,” the natural beauty tells Tinseltown Mom.
In addition to being a hard-working mother of many the former model began blogging for People Magazine, and also runs a personal website where she posts family photos, beauty and fashion tips, plus more. “It’s really a lifestyle blog and I started it because I’m interested in starting a business down the road and I love to write and it’s a creative outlet for me. I’m really enjoying it so far,” Wahlberg reveals. Her daughter Ella even got in on the writing fun and became her mom’s first guest blogger, writing a very witty piece about her favorite shops for pre-teens and teens. “…She is a great writer and gives great advice for her age group,” the proud mom says.
So, besides posing on the red carpets, managing a house full of kids and writing blog posts what other activities do the Wahlberg’s enjoy? “We love the beach. We go as much as we can. We enjoy movies, traveling, going to see Dad at work, watching NBA basketball games on TV – sports are huge in our home, and we love swimming and hanging out on the weekends.”
The active mom and wife, who’s been with Mark for over fourteen years now, is often photographed vacationing with her affectionate husband and picturesque kids, and if you’ve ever seen any of their beach photos you’ll recognize that this fit mama is in stellar shape. “Sometimes I’m into my routine and then sometimes I’m not. When I’m focusing on a fitness routine it’s usually 3 days a week for about 60-75 minutes. I do a lot of light weights and bodyweight training…lunges, squats and planks. I put my music on and go for it,” Wahlberg says. With a body like hers you’d think she followed a strict diet regimen, but that’s not the case. “…I kind of eat what I want to except when I’m trying to increase my protein intake. I do this when I’m training for strength and toning. I like to incorporate my husband’s nutritional supplement line and increase lean proteins, in general, across the board.”
Wahlberg also limits the amount of junk food and sweets she gives her kids. “… I pack their lunches or they have healthy hot lunch at school. We mostly avoid all fast food when we can and I incorporate vegetables and protein at dinnertime. I try to create a good nutritional balance for them. Water is a huge thing in our house. With sporty kids we have to keep them hydrated!”
In addition to physical health, as parents we know that our mental wellbeing is also important so taking those mommy breaks when we can is imperative. “I enjoy getting a massage once in a while, reading, writing, working out and charity work. Those are moments that I take just for myself,” Wahlberg shares.
Being that this well-rounded mom has experienced modeling success and her husband is a superstar actor we wondered if she’d encourage a showbiz career for any of her kids should the desire surface. “I definitely wouldn’t encourage it at first. I would like for all of them to go on to college after high school. It’s very important to us. However, if it were something they absolutely wanted to do and had a passion for it, I would support their choice and help them do it in the safest and smartest way possible.”
Wahlberg has some exciting business endeavors underway that, unfortunately, she can’t divulge right now so we’ll have to follow her to make sure we stay current on what’s next!
