Apple Cider Vinegar is best known for being a tasty addition to marinades and salad dressings, but actress Kimberly Elise shared 8 more reasons why Apple Cider Vinegar is a beneficial supplement to add to your everyday life.
1. Weight Loss
Drinking a mix of apple cider vinegar and water throughout the day help people maintain their figures and burn abdominal fat over the course of twelve weeks. The acetic acid in apple cider vinegar helps reduce triglycerides (bad cholesterol) and helps maintain blood sugar levels.
A recommended ratio is two tablespoons of apple cider to sixteen ounces of water. A high concentration of apple cider vinegar can be corrosive to the body. Drinking apple cider vinegar isn’t a magic elixir for weight loss but can help prevent weight gain and over the course of three to four months result in noticeable weight loss.
2. Decrease Candida Levels
Candida is a type of yeast that increases fatigue, sugar cravings, poor memory as well as causing thrush. The acetic acid and enzymes in apple cider vinegar help break down candida in the body. Many people who switch to candida-free diets supplement their intake diets with apple cider vinegar mixed with water.
3. Detox/Digestion
Apple cider vinegar has been known to help digest food and bring the acid levels in stomachs to a better equilibrium. Apple cider vinegar helps the body maintain healthy alkaline pH levels by regulating the level of acidity. Apple cider vinegar also reduces heartburn by balancing acid levels, and it helps the body detox by stimulating circulation, and detoxifying the liver.
4. Whiten Teeth
For the stubborn yellow stains on your teeth directly apply apple cider vinegar and rub out the spot. The acidity will help remove the stain on your teeth, however overuse of apple cider vinegar will also erode tooth enamel. Apple cider vinegar can be an all-natural substitute as a mouth wash/rinse by mixing water and vinegar and equal parts.
5. Soothe Sunburns
Diluted apple cider vinegar can help soothe wicked sunburns by returning skin to its normal pH levels. Its antibacterial properties can help kill off harmful bacteria. You can either add some apple cider vinegar to your bath or apply a diluted solution directly onto your skin with a washcloth.
6. Soothe Sore Throats
When sick you can add a little apple cider vinegar to your tea or make a diluted mixture to soothe your sore throat. Apple cider vinegar’s antibacterial properties can help break up mucus and sinus congestion. You can add cayenne pepper to a mix of water and apple cider vinegar and improve the taste with honey for a sore throat remedy.
7. Toner
Because apple cider vinegar can help restore your skin’s pH levels, it makes an excellent, very cheap, and all-natural skin toner. Apple cider vinegar can clear away make-up, oil, and exfoliate the skin. It helps with acne and can over time lighten acne scars and age spots. A recommended solution would be a 2:1 ratio of water to apple cider vinegar. But you can play around with the ratio as long as it stays under 1:1 (otherwise it will be corrosive to the skin). You can even add an essential oil such as diluted tea-tree oil or lavender.
8. Hair Rinse
Apple cider vinegar can be used to remove dandruff and smooth the cuticles in your hair. The vinegar helps remove buildup that occurs from overusing products. Removing buildup from hair products helps your hair look shiny and healthy. The acidity and enzymes in the vinegar reduce dandruff buildup by killing the bacteria that causes itchy scalp and dander. For dandruff removal use equal parts apple cider vinegar and water (you need to dilute the vinegar) and rub directly onto the scalp or put in a spray bottle and apply after shampooing. With both methods it will be more effective to let the mix sit for ten minutes before rinsing off. The vinegary smell will fade as your hair dries.
