The current wildfires in Los Angeles have caused heartbreaking destruction, leaving families displaced and communities utterly devastated. As a California and LA resident, the despair is unbelievable. Thankfully, my family is safe, but we’re saddened by the destruction and hearing of people we know whose homes have burned to the ground. Many people are asking how they an help the LA fire victims during this time.
Since Tuesday, January 7th, Los Angeles has been battling devastating wildfires. The largest, the Palisades Fire, has burned over 23,000 acres, and the Eaton Fire has burned over 14,000 acres. These fires have forced the evacuation of approximately 150,000 residents, and over 10,000 structures have been destroyed. At least 24 deaths have been reported with others missing, and strong winds and critical fire weather conditions are complicating containment efforts.
Firefighters are working tirelessly, but containment remains low, with the Palisades Fire at 11% and the Eaton Fire at 27%. The smoke from the fires has significantly deteriorated air quality, posing health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations. While the community is rallying to offer support, resources are stretched thin.
It’s easy to feel powerless in the face of such tragedy, but this is also an opportunity to reflect on how we can use our God-given passions to make a difference and help the LA fire victims. Below are 10 suggestions.
