Charlize Theron Says Her Life is ‘No Different Than Any Other Working Mother’

October 21, 2014 by watkinsT Leave a Comment

There’s no doubt about it Charlize Theron is gorgeous, but don’t ever imply that beauty is the reason for this Oscar-winner’s achievements. She has definitely earned all the success that’s come her way and as she tells, Charlotte Pearson Methven for You Magazine, “Who wants to just have a pretty face?”

The 39-year-old sat down with Methven and, among other things, talked about the work/mom balance so many mothers are trying to achieve, and believe it or not, Theron says that her life is no different than that of any other working mother. “Time management and finding that balance have always been, and will always be, the hardest thing.” The beautiful mom adopted her son Jackson in 2012 and goes on to say, “But I had a lot of time to think about it before adopting and I really wanted to be a mother – so by being so clear on it I set myself up for all the juggling that’s involved.”

Her mom Gerda, normally by Theron’s side, is who the actress credits for helping her through the motherhood process.  “She is my role model. I hope to be half the mother she has been… She is very hands-on and looks more beautiful than ever as a grandmother.”

Theron is also not one of those mothers who’ll only do family-friendly films now that she’s become a parent.  “People assume that once you have a child you will naturally veer away from darkness.  I have found the opposite. Being a mother is the only thing I have experienced where the reality has surpassed my expectations of how great it would be, but the last thing I want to do now is to close my eyes to everything. My quest has always been to understand humanity in all its glory – its beauty and its darkness – and I’ve become more enticed by that side of things since becoming a mother.  I am very aware… my son won’t be able to see any of my work until he’s about 53! I’ve made my peace with that.”
