Blog vs a Podcast, which is better? As a content creator who’s had a blog for over 10 years and started a podcast more than 5 years ago, I’ve often wondered which is better. Which should serve as the top of the funnel, and which should take a secondary role as the main long-form content platform? It’s not an easy decision. Both have their pros and bring people organically to my brand.
Blog vs Podcast
Deciding between starting a blog or a podcast for your business can be a tough choice. So many factors go into choosing the right outlet for your brand. I started my blog over a decade ago, and to this day, most of my organic traffic comes from it. My podcast, which I launched over five years ago, underwent a rebrand at the beginning of 2024, narrowing its focus. As a result, my podcast growth tripled, and went from being in the top 5% of podcasts globally to the top 1.5% within just six months.
It took years for my blog to rank as effectively as my podcast, primarily because I had to master using SEO (Search Engine Optimization) over time. Podcasting, however, isn’t as oversaturated as blogging. Current reports indicate there are 600 million blogs compared to roughly 4.1 million podcasts.
With both a podcast and a blog, you can conduct interviews: On my blog and podcast, I’ve interviewed hundreds of celebrity moms and successful mompreneurs.
Which Is Best for You? Below, I break down key information to help you decide which format is better for your business.
3 Reasons to Start a Blog
- Your Audience Prefers Written Content – If your potential audience is searching for quick answers online, a blog may be ideal. Similarly, if your target audience prefers detailed written content, blogging is a helpful tool to deliver it.
- You Prefer Writing Over Speaking – If you feel more comfortable behind the keyboard than in front of a microphone, playing to your strengths with a blog makes sense.
- Writing Is a Passion of Yours – If writing is your gift and you love producing written content, then blogging could be your perfect outlet. As long as you have a clear niche and a unique angle, blogging can also be highly lucrative.
3 Reasons to Start a Podcast
- You Enjoy Sharing Your Authority Through Speaking – If you have a gift or passion for speaking or prefer to convey your message verbally, podcasting is an excellent way to show off those talents.
- You Have a Dynamic Personality – Podcasting allows your personality to shine and helps listeners get to know you on a deeper level. While writing can convey some personality, it’s not as effective as speaking directly to your audience.
- You Enjoy Coaching and Teaching – Podcasting is a wonderful way to demonstrate your expertise and teach others through an engaging platform.

You Can Also Consider a Hybrid Approach – You’re not limited to choosing just one format. I’ve taken the hybrid approach, and many content creators do the same, combining blogs and podcasts to reach a bigger audience. You can repurpose content by turning podcast episodes into blog posts—or vice versa. This is something I do on a weekly basis.
Both blogs and podcasts are powerful tools for showcasing your expertise and passion while establishing yourself as an authority in your niche. Ultimately, the choice comes down to what aligns best with your voice, personality, and target audience.
