Lorna Wells on Delayed Dreams and Passions

July 21, 2025 by watkinsT Leave a Comment

What happens when you feel like God has delayed your dreams?

Lorna Wells, wife of music artist, author, and pastor Tauren Wells, knows this feeling well. But beyond her high-profile marriage, Lorna is a powerful force in her own right: co-lead pastor of Church of Whitestone, passionate worship leader, podcast host, and devoted mom of four boys.

Lorna brings so much heart and honesty to our conversation. We talk about what it means to be benched by God, and why it might not be the setback we think it is, and the practical things that helped her move forward during that season.

“It was discipline. I’m such a strong believer in spiritual breakthrough… but discipline is the big, ugly word nobody wants to talk about. After I had that prayer time with the Lord, I was like, ‘Okay, I’ve got to get up. I’ve got to get outside. Start my running app—whatever it is that gets me moving. Get some fresh air. Have a fresh perspective on my day: prayer, exercise, movement. I’m going to take my kids out of the house and to the park or something.’”

She started creating systems for her family. She wanted to teach her kids about God and began developing tools to help her do that. She began treating motherhood as her calling, building out a daily schedule—even if it was rough, with little ones. “We’re not just going to get through it—we’re going to thrive in this season.”

“I got my planner out. Instead of just sitting in my depression of ‘I’m at home all day,’ I said, ‘No. Let’s make this fun. Let’s make it beneficial for my kids. Let me be a mom they want to be around.’”

Tauren noticed the change, too: “During that time, we were doing a lot of healing in our marriage, doing counseling. When I look back at those five years, if we hadn’t had that season, I don’t think we’d be where we are now. I don’t think we would’ve been prepared to take on what God has given us.

Everyone goes through that pruning, wilderness season—where you’re breaking down barriers, forging a path, and ultimately resting. Because God is preparing you for something big, and He needs you at your best to get you there.”

Lorna also shared about the tension between motherhood and passion, and how to keep showing up for your purpose even when life feels full, encouraging our kids to chase their own God-given passions and how she and Tauren stay connected in marriage amidst busy schedules, travel, ministry, and parenting

Whether you’re in a season of waiting, wondering if your time will come, or just trying to hold it all together with grace, Lorna’s words will encourage you to trust God’s timing, keep your heart open, and live boldly with faith.
